Elements and Performance Criteria
- Elements define the essential outcomes of a unit of competency
- The Performance Criteria specify the level of performance required to demonstrate achievement of the Element.
- Perform nursing interventions to assist client with complex needs
- Perform nursing interventions based on a predetermined care plan to address identified client needs
- Reflect the individuality of the client in nursing interventions
- Undertake nursing interventions with respect for client's dignity
- Accommodate cultural, spiritual and religious issues in the performance of nursing interventions
- Encourage the client to assist in the performance of nursing interventions if able
- Consider physical, emotional and psychosocial needs in the performance of nursing interventions
- Perform nursing interventions according to professional, legal and health care environment requirements
- Document effective and non-effective responses and report to the registered nurse or most appropriate person in line with policy
- Advocate for clients in health and/or community settings
- Support and encourage clients to exercise their rights and personal choices
- Assess client's ability to advocate for self
- Identify issues that uphold the rights of the client and support their reasonable expectations
- Identify and address potential conflicts of interests
- Develop, initiate and implement strategies to address clients in consultation/collaboration with appropriate personnel
- Contribute to the nursing care of clients with common disorders/conditions
- Provide nursing care appropriate to the management of specific disorders/conditions
- Monitor the client's response/reaction to medication provided to address specific disorders/conditions
- Observe, report and document client reactions and/or responses to management and medication provided
- Promptly refer to the registered nurse any reactions, responses or variations to normal or expected outcomes
